Problem: Sparklers
Personally, I feel that sparklers are dangerous items. To me, playing with sparklers is just like playing with fire. The only difference is the color of the flame.
Recently, there has been news on sparklers being ‘misused’ in Singapore. In the past, sparklers have also been known to injure people who do not use them with care.
Hence, I feel that sparkler is a problem the government will face in the future and should tackle. For the safety of all citizens in Singapore, I feel that the government should resolve the dangers that sparklers bring as soon as possible.
A solution that will bring about immediate results is the banning of sparklers. Sparklers are just a form of entertainment or decoration, and not a necessity. Thus, the banning of sparklers will not affect the majority of the citizens of Singapore. The banning of sparklers will be of great similarity to the banning of the firecrackers; people maybe unsatisfied with the decision in the first place but the feelings of dissatisfaction will die off as time passes and as people finds that they do not need firecrackers or sparklers.
Besides ensuring the safety of the residence of Singapore, the banning of sparklers also brings us other advantages. One such advantage is that there will be less pollution. I believe that everyone has smelt the stench that burning sparklers produced. Imagine the fresh clean air that will not be polluted by burning sparklers after they are banned…I think that refreshing clean air is what everyone wake up looking forward to. Also, through banning sparklers, we will also not see used sparklers lying around on the floor, damaging the reputation of Singapore being clean and green.
Another solution to the problems sparklers bring is to punish people who misuse them. People, who are caught using sparklers dangerously without consideration of other people’s safety, can be punished by making them serve the community by cleaning up the area that they were playing the sparklers. This solution is less harsh to the citizens. However, this solution is not able to solve the problems of sparklers completely. The dangers of sparklers will still exist.
Today, the news reported that fire breakouts in Singapore have decreased. However, there is an increase in fire caused by children. This further enhance that sparklers, which are usually played by children, should be banned.
